Three Brum landlords to pay £8k for breaching regulations
Three rogue landlords were ordered to pay a total of £8,028.10 at Birmingham Magistrates Court today (8 December 2016) for failing to obtain HMO licences and breaching legislation.
The legislation was designed to protect tenants in houses in multiple occupation and council housing officers investigated and prosecuted the following landlords:
- Mohammed Majid, age 31, of South Road, Hockley, Birmingham pleaded guilty to the failure to obtain an HMO license for an eight-bedroomed property on The Drive, Erdington, and for breaching HMO Management Regulations, including those designed to protect tenants from fire. Majid was fined £1,750 with £2,088.59 full costs and victim surcharge of £35
- Osman Baz, age 35, of Cole Bank Road, Hall Green, Birmingham pleaded guilty to the failure to obtain an HMO licence for a seven-bedroomed house on Alton Road, Selly Oak, and for breaching HMO Management Regulations including those designed to protect tenants from fire. Baz was fined £321 with £1,628.34 full costs and victim surcharge of £20
- Farzana Baz, age 35, of Russell Road, Hall Green, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to the failure to obtain an HMO licence for a five-bedroomed property on Dawlish Road, Selly Oak, and for breaching HMO Management Regulations including those designed to protect tenants from fire. Baz was fined £450 with £1,715.17 full costs and victim surcharge of £20
Cabinet member for Housing and Homes, Cllr Peter Griffiths, said: “Today’s prosecutions send out a clear message – we are here to tackle rogue landlords and support and protect our citizens.”
