Birmingham wins at property awards

Published: Friday, 21st June 2019

Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust (BMHT), the council's housebuilding arm, won ‘Social Housing Developer of the Year' at the West Midlands Residential Property Awards on 20 June 2019.

This is the fourth consecutive year BMHT has won the title at the awards, hosted and run by Insider Media.

The accolade recognises the continued work of the council to build new homes at a time of unprecedented demand.

The judges commented on the new and innovative practices the council is adopting which in turn allows it to deliver more social housing, often in challenging situations.

Councillor Sharon Thompson, cabinet member for homes and neighbourhoods at Birmingham City Council, said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have joined a handful of our dedicated staff at this annual event and to once again have our efforts recognised.

“This is the tenth anniversary of BMHT and while we’re the biggest local authority housebuilder in the UK, we have plans to build a further 2,700 more homes in the next 10 years. This is to meet the growing need for social housing in Birmingham.”
