Waste management modernisation update - 9 October 2018

Published: Thursday, 4th October 2018

Following the finalisation of a collective agreement between the Trade Unions and Birmingham City Council, a new operating model for waste collection services in the city was launched on 24 September

This new model is designed to provide more modern, effective and efficient services for the citizens of Birmingham; unfortunately there may be some disruption to service because of this major change as we transition from the old to the new model with optimised rounds and equalisation of workload as we serve 360,000 households weekly.

To minimise disruption, scheduled collection days for households remain the same but the rounds that crews are working will be different and the new routes will inevitably take some time to bed in.

This is being closely monitored, issues are being ironed out and the workforce is committed to making the new model work. To this end, we can see missed bin reports are decreasing.

If any collections are missed, please accept our apologies in advance, and report uncollected waste and we will pick up your waste as soon as possible. Please also note we have crews supporting missed work who are collecting into the evening, so if your bins are not collected by 3.30pm they may still be collected on the same day.
