Brummies take part in Britain’s biggest sports day

Published: Wednesday, 24th August 2016

Brummies inspired by Team GB’s Olympic heroes and their amazing performances in Rio are being urged to try a range of activities as part of a free, nationwide sports day on Saturday (27 August 2016).

Around 50 free events – including belly dancing, cycling and swimming - will take place in many of Birmingham City Council’s parks and leisure centres as part of I Am Team GB, Britain’s biggest sports day.

People are being encouraged to have their own Super Saturday by trying out a sport or activity for the first time, and release their inner Mo Farah, Adam Peaty or Laura Trott.

All events are designed to be fun, taster activities but there are also a number of free family fun days taking place at various sites across Birmingham.

Other activities will include basketball, football and gymnastics, ensuring there is something for people of all ages.

Councillor Ian Ward, Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: “This is a brilliant opportunity for people of all ages and abilities across the city to get out and about to try some new activities, following Team GB’s amazing performances in Rio.

“Our award-winning parks and popular wellbeing centres and leisure centres will host a variety of activities, alongside our regular Active Parks events which have helped people become fitter and healthier. So pick an event and have fun, that’s what I Am Team GB’s about.”
