Birmingham City Council prepares for Chaand Raat and Eid-Al-Fitr with partners to keep communities safe
Birmingham City Council is working closely with West Midlands Police and local community partners to ensure that residents, businesses, and visitors can celebrate Chaand Raat and Eid-Al-Fitr safely.
Throughout Ramadan, council teams have been engaging with community leaders, local businesses, volunteers, and residents to understand concerns and prepare coordinated support for the busy period leading up to the end of the holy month. This work will continue as celebrations approach, with a focus on promoting safety, managing traffic and parking pressures, and tackling nuisance behaviour.
Council’s environmental health, trading standards, neighbourhood enforcement, and parking teams will be active across key locations such as Ladypool Road, Stratford Road and Alum Rock Road, working alongside police colleagues as part of a joint operational plan.
The primary concerns highlighted by communities relate to antisocial behaviour, noise levels, and issues associated with reckless driving and nuisance vehicles. In response, the Council has deployed additional resources and will continue to support enforcement activity to help ensure that families can celebrate in a safe and welcoming environment.
Councillor Jamie Scott, Cabinet Member for Social Justice, Community Safety and Equalities, said: “Eid is a cherished time for families across Birmingham, and we want people to feel safe, respected, and supported as they come together to celebrate. We’ve listened closely to residents and businesses during Ramadan, and we are acting on what matters most to them.
“Our officers will be working on the ground throughout the celebrations, in addressing issues such as parking, noise and nuisance behaviour, with the support of West Midlands Police. These celebrations bring so much joy and sense of community to our city, and we are committed to ensuring they can be enjoyed responsibly by everyone.”
Chief Inspector Andy Moseley, Commander for Chaand Raat, added: “As ever, our clear focus is on keeping everyone as safe as possible, and we have a comprehensively planned operation running.
“We understand the key areas to focus on, and you can expect to see more officers present and ready to help should you need it.
“Those officers will be working alongside Council partners including trading standards, environmental health, and parking enforcement colleagues.
“We will be robust in our approach to dealing with problem vehicles - our dedicated Roads Policing Unit will be highly visible in the area as they target reckless drivers, and they do have the power to seize vehicles where necessary.”
West Midlands Police will continue to lead on public safety, including a visible policing presence in key areas and targeted enforcement by the Roads Policing Unit to address illegal or dangerous driving.
Birmingham City Council encourages residents with specific concerns during Chaand Raat or Eid to report issues directly through council channels or to West Midlands Police where urgent assistance is needed.
