Construction underway to deliver new affordable homes in Northfield
Construction is well underway to build 10 new affordable homes on a housing development on Trescott Road, Northfield, for Birmingham families struggling to afford a home amid the housing crisis.
Birmingham City Council has signed a deal with the developer TR Partnership Homes to build homes on the site for the housing association Midland Heart, who will own and manage the homes.
All the homes in the development will be affordable, and all will be available for social rent.
The council agreed a deal with TR Partnership Homes and Midland Heart in September 2025 to develop the homes. It is expected that families will be moving into the properties around June 2026.
The development represents one of many that the council has now undertaken with developers and housing associations to speed up the delivery of affordable homes in the city.
Construction has now begun on four development sites where the council is working with a developer and a housing association in order to provide 383 affordable homes. Construction is expected to start on a fifth development site on Boleyn Road at the end of March, delivering another 70 affordable homes, bringing the total to 453.
Cllr Nicky Brennan, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, said:
“In the last year alone, the council has delivered 1,000 affordable homes.
“We are looking to accelerate that delivery by partnering with developers and housing associations to turn unused patches of land into more affordable homes.
“Trescott Road is an excellent example of how quickly homes can be delivered working in this way, and I am delighted that 100% of the homes on this development will be affordable.
"I would urge more partners to work with us so together we can rapidly increase the number of affordable, warm, safe, and energy-efficient homes available for Birmingham residents."
Director of Development at Midland Heart, Chris Miller, said:
“Trescott Road is another clear example of how we’re accelerating the delivery of affordable homes for Birmingham residents.
“With a pipeline of 1,200 homes planned by 2028, we’re working with partners right across the city to make sure more families have access to the safe and decent homes they need.”
Steve Thompson, Managing Director at TR Partnerships Homes, said:
“We are proud to be working in partnership with Birmingham City Council and Midland Heart to deliver these much-needed affordable homes on Trescott Road.
“Developments like this demonstrate what can be achieved when organisations work together with a shared commitment to addressing the housing crisis.
“We look forward to seeing these high-quality homes completed and welcoming families to a safe, secure place they can call home in June.”
