Birmingham welcomes 10 New Community Safety Street Intervention Officers (CSSIOs)
Birmingham City Council Community Safety Team has welcomed 10 new Local Community Safety Street Intervention Officers as part of its ongoing Community Safety redesign.
This enhances support for neighbourhoods and strengthens the city’s long‑term approach to tackling anti-social behaviour (ASB).
The new CSSI Officers will work across Birmingham’s communities to build relationships, engage with residents, and support local priorities, forming an important part of the council’s prevention‑focused approach to community safety. There will be 2 CSSIO allocated to each of the 5 Local Community Safety Partnership areas who will work directly within neighbourhoods to respond to local concerns
Supporting communities across the city
The CSSIO team will:
- Build stronger partnerships with residents, local organisations and community groups
- Support area‑based ASB reduction initiatives
- Provide early intervention and problem‑solving support
- Strengthen community resilience and improve the visibility of safety services.
These roles are part of a wider redesign aimed at improving coordination, consistency and support across the city.
Councillor Jamie Scott, Cabinet Member for Social Justice, Community Safety and Equalities, said:
“I’m pleased to welcome our new CSSI Officers as part of our wider Community Safety redesign. They will play a key role in supporting residents, strengthening community relationships, and helping us respond to anti-social behaviour in a more proactive and coordinated way.
“By focusing on prevention and early engagement, we can work with communities to make neighbourhoods across Birmingham even safer.”
