Recruitment opens for Neighbourhood Chairs in Pride in Place Programme areas

Published: Friday, 13th February 2026

The Pride in Place programme is a national ten-year initiative providing long-term investment to selected communities across the UK.

Independent Neighbourhood Chairs are now being recruited to lead new community-led boards that will help direct investment as part of the national Pride in Place programme.

Community-led boards will play a central role in shaping how the Pride in Place funding is used locally. Each board will oversee community engagement, shape a shared local vision, and guide the future investment into each of the respective areas.

These boards will be chaired by an Independent Neighbourhood Chair, who will work closely with other residents, the local MP, and community organisations to ensure decisions truly reflect local priorities and views.

The recruitment process is being led by local MPs, supported by Birmingham City Council.

Recruitment is now underway for Chairs in the following neighbourhood areas identified by the Government:

  • Glebe Farm Pride in Place Area (map) including a southern section of Glebe Farm & Tile Cross Ward, and the northwest section of the Garretts Green Ward.
  • Fox Hollies Pride in Place Area (map) - known locally as the Gospel and Pitmaston Estates - covering an area in the southeast of the Acocks Green Ward and an area in the northeast of the Hall Green North Ward.
  • Kingstanding South-East Pride in Place Area (map), located within the Kingstanding Ward.
  • Woodgate Pride in Place Area (map), situated within the western part of the Bartley Green Ward.
  • Hawkesley Pride in Place Area (map), across Kings Norton North and Kings Norton South Wards.
  • Nechells Pride in Place Area (map)

Overall, Birmingham has nine Pride in Place Programme Areas. Details of recruitments for the Chairs of the other Pride in Place areas are expected in coming weeks.

Passionate and community-minded individuals with strong connections to the local area are encouraged to apply to be a Chair.

Background to the Pride in Place Programme

The Pride in Place programme is a national ten-year initiative providing long-term investment to selected communities across the UK. It aims to strengthen local pride, improve social infrastructure, and empower residents to shape the future of their own neighbourhoods.

Nine areas in Birmingham have been selected by Government to receive up to £20 million each over ten years: Druids Heath, Fox Hollies, Glebe Farm, Handsworth West, Hawkesley, Kingstanding, Nechells, Sparkbrook North and Woodgate.

Neighbourhood Boards will be created in each of the nine areas to engage communities to set a vision, develop investment priorities, and to design and deliver a Pride in Place Plan.
