Millions of pounds set to revive communities in Birmingham
The government has announced that eight neighbourhoods in Birmingham are to receive £2million every year for a decade as part of its Pride in Place programme.
The communities receiving the funds, announced yesterday, are: Hawkesley; Druids Heath; Glebe Farm; Kingstanding South East; Woodgate; Sparkbrook North; Fox Hollies; Nechells.
The aim of the programme is to give communities the certainty and control they need to plan for the future, with local people will decide how funding is spent — reviving high streets, restoring parks, and breathing new life into pubs, leisure centres and community halls.
Cllr John Cotton, leader of Birmingham City Council, said in response to the announcement: “The Government announcement that eight communities across Birmingham are at the front of the queue for the new Pride in Place fund is a huge boost for the people of this city.
“The previous Government failed to deliver on its promise to level up for our communities, but this news shows real confidence in the people and communities of Birmingham.”
