Budget proposals published
Birmingham City Council has published details of budget proposals for the next two years, 2025/6 and 2026/7.
Savings for the 2024/5 year have been delivered with savings of £148m identified for 2025/26.
Leader of the council Cllr John Cotton said: "Significant progress has been made over the last year and by making difficult decisions, we have put the council back on the path to financial stability.
"The hard work is far from over and we must make further significant savings over the next 12 months, but we have laid the foundations that will enable us to deliver better services for our residents.
"Despite the record level of savings over the last two years, we remain committed to putting the needs of our citizens first and we have done everything possible to protect the services people rely on and support our most vulnerable citizens.”
Cllr Karen McCarthy, cabinet member for finance, added: “The finance team has worked really hard for months to bring the council to a balanced budget and I would like to place on record my thanks for their work and that of officers across the council.
“We now need to maintain the progress made over the last 12 months, with the savings for 2025/26 backed by detailed and credible delivery plans that have undergone rigorous due diligence.”
The report will go to cabinet on 11 February.
