Agreement for use of Alexander Stadium by Birchfield Harriers
Birmingham City Council and Birchfield Harriers Athletic Club are delighted to announce the signing of the licence agreement for Alexander Stadium.
Following the redevelopment of Alexander Stadium into a state-of-the-art £72million world-class venue, we are pleased to be moving forward into an exciting future with a new arrangement between the council and the club, updating the original licence signed in 1975.
The most successful athletics club in the country, Birchfield Harriers were integral to the original relocation and construction of Alexander Stadium. The signing of this new agreement secures the club’s position as a fundamental part of the stadium and partnership with the city. Both organisations are delighted that this secures Birchfield’s occupation and exclusivity of the stadium for future generations.
Cllr Saima Suleman, cabinet member for digital, culture, heritage and tourism said: “The investment that continues to be put into the stadium will provide a lasting Commonwealth Games legacy.
“The city council is committed to working in partnership with the club to promote athletics and grow the sport further in a stadium with the very best of facilities and support for the whole community to enjoy.”
