Birmingham Archives and Collections achieves national accreditation

Published: Thursday, 20th July 2017

Birmingham Archives and Collections, based at the Library of Birmingham, has been awarded Archive Service Accreditation by The National Archives today (20 July 2017).

Achieving accredited status shows that Birmingham Archives and Collections has met clearly defined national standards relating to management and resourcing; the care of its unique collections, and what the service offers to its entire range of users.

The National Archives, which operate the accreditation scheme, recognised that the service based at the Library of Birmingham is a developing service, looking to offer a range of options to reflect the scale and diversity of the city’s population.

Cllr Ian Ward, Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Birmingham Archives and Collections, recognising the considerable efforts by the Library of Birmingham’s archives staff to ensure records relating to the city, its communities and our heritage are well maintained. Well done to all involved.”
