Scheme update

The modified designs for phase 2 of the Places for People Lozells scheme are now complete. The Traffic Regulation Order (TRO), which is the legal process for changing the roads, has been completed.

This marks the conclusion of Phase 2 of the scheme.

Scheme details

Phase 1

In 2020, we completed Phase 1 of the Places for People scheme, which introduced one-way streets and narrower roads (using large planters) on:

  • Church Street
  • Graham Street
  • Anglesey Street
  • Hunters Road
  • Finch Road
  • Archibald Road

This made cut-throughs by car more difficult between Nursery Road, Lozells Road, and Heathfield Road.

In November 2021, we consulted on the next phase of Places for People in Lozells, which expanded on the Phase 1 measures.

After the 2021 consultation, the comments received were reviewed and used to inform the Phase 2 detailed design for both sides of Lozells Road.

Phase 2

In September 2023, we started Phase 2 of the Places for People scheme in Lozells using an experimental traffic regulation order (ETRO). This phase built on the changes from Phase 1 and introduced:

  • additional one-way streets with contra-flow cycling
  • a false one-way

After the measures were put in place, residents gave their feedback, which was used to make improvements to Phase 2.

Phase 2 of the Places for People Lozells scheme is now fully implemented, with the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) confirmed, bringing this stage of the scheme to a close.
