Appeal conditions
This form is for you to appeal against the refusal of a place for your child, currently in Reception, Primary School (Years 1 to 6), Secondary School (Years 7 to 11 and sixth form) or 14 to 19 years.
You cannot use this form to appeal against the refusal from a Nursery School.
You can only appeal for one school per form. To appeal for more than one school, you must complete additional forms.
You can only appeal for a school where you applied and at which you have been refused a place at.
You must complete all sections of the form.
Birmingham schools
Some appeals are managed by Birmingham City Council, others are managed by the schools themselves.
This form is only to appeal for schools that are managed by Birmingham City Council. If the school you wish to appeal for is not on this list, contact the school directly for details of their appeals arrangements.
Change in circumstances
You cannot appeal for the same school in the same academic year unless there has been a material and significant change in your circumstances since your last appeal hearing, such as change of address, or a sibling being admitted at the school.
You must attach proof of your home address to your appeal form if it differs from the address you applied from. Examples of acceptable proof of address.
Education, Health and Care Plan
If your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) you must phone the Special Educational Needs Assessment and Review Service on 0121 303 1888
Considerations
- You must set out your reasons for wanting a place for your child at a particular school so that the independent panel can consider the strength of your case.
- If your appeal is due to your child's medical condition, you are encouraged to attach evidence of this to your appeal form, such as a consultant's letter from the hospital.
- If your appeal is due to social reasons such as domestic violence, you are encouraged to attach evidence of this to your appeal form.
Be aware that failure to complete any of the above steps may cause a delay in your appeal being processed and eventually heard.
The appeals process
All appeals take place via video link using Microsoft Teams, accessible from a mobile telephone, tablet, laptop or any device that can access the internet via an internet browser.
