Immunisations

Colder weather increases the risk of catching a winter illness, which can spread through communities and pose a serious risk to vulnerable groups.

There have been recent measles cases in Birmingham, and now is a great time to book your child's appointment, or catch up on any missed doses.

You can protect against many winter illnesses through immunisations, such as:

  • flu
  • COVID-19
  • respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)
  • measles

Flu and COVID-19

Free immunisations are available to those most at risk from severe symptoms of flu and COVID-19. To find out if you are eligible or to book an appointment, visit the NHS website:

Measles

You can also protect yourself and your family against measles with the MMR immunisation.

The immunisation is effective, safe, and free of charge. Two doses are needed for the best protection.

  • Research shows there is no link between the MMR immunisation and autism.
  • The MMR immunisation is safe for all faiths and cultures. A pork-free version, called Priorix, is available for anyone who avoids pork products. It is available for free at every GP practice.
