Meet the Deaf and hearing loss DEP

BID Services is a charity that works to remove barriers and helps people to live full lives. They deliver services that enable and empower those who are:

  • D/deaf
  • hard of hearing
  • sight impaired
  • deafblind
  • or have other disabilities

They offer a range of services for clients based on individual needs. Services differ by area based on local need, contracts and funding available.

In Birmingham their services focus primarily on those who are D/deaf or hard of hearing.

They aim to run focus groups for the Deaf community to access information about health and wellbeing such as prostate cancer and domestic violence.

They aim to get feedback from the members throughout the project to ensure that they co-produce sessions on community days going forward. This makes sure BID Services cover all areas the community feel they would like more information.

They aim to engage with stakeholders, professionals and other agencies and organisations to enable them to have an understanding of how to make their material and resources accessible for BSL and International Sign Language users.

They want to make sure they reach all groups within the Deaf community.

Those includes those already attending the Deaf Cultural Centre but also those from other groups such as faith groups, LGBTQ+, and travelling community as examples.

They also plan to run evening and weekend sessions so sessions and focus groups are open to those who work or need childcare to be able to join in our sessions.

They plan to continue to communicate with the community at all levels as well as others in the wider community who may not yet be familiar with the events they offer and the services they provide within the Birmingham areas. These include our social groups held in Solihull and Erdington.
