Newhall traffic management

The Newhall traffic management scheme is part of a bigger project to improve the streets around Snow Hill Station, making it easier for people to:

  • walk
  • cycle
  • use public transport

About the improvements

Improvements include:

  • Newhall Street, between Edmund Street and Colmore Row, is now 2-way traffic. This will also enable cycling in both directions
  • Bennetts Hill, between Colmore Row and Waterloo Street, is now 2-way traffic. This will also enable cycling in both directions
  • Waterloo Street, between Bennetts Hill and Temple Row West, is now 1-way traffic in an eastbound direction (towards the Cathedral). Cyclists will also be able to travel westbound (towards Victoria Square) on a contraflow cycle lane (going in the opposite direction to the general flow of traffic)
  • Temple Row West, between Colmore Row and Waterloo Street, is now 1-way traffic in a northbound direction (towards Colmore Row). Cyclists will also be able to travel southbound (towards Waterloo Street) on a contraflow cycle lane (going in the opposite direction to the general flow of traffic)
  • new pay and display bays have been provided in locations on:
    • Margaret Street
    • Edmund Street
    • Barwick Street
    • Weaman Street
    • Steelhouse Lane

Construction is due to be completed by 12 December 2025.
