National guidance for designated teachers
All maintained schools have a statutory duty to appoint a designated teacher for looked-after and previously looked-after children on the school roll.
We recommend that all schools appoint a designated teacher.
They should attend designated teacher training and network meetings, so they are up to date with current national and local authority guidance and practice.
The role and expected duties of the designated are set down in Statutory Department for Education guidance, which is periodically updated.
