Switch Together Birmingham - buying solar panels and battery storage made easy

Since recognising the climate emergency in 2019, we have been actively promoting renewable energy initiatives.

Recognizing the negative impacts posed by climate change for Birmingham and the UK, we aim to achieve net zero carbon emissions and support residents to transition to sustainable ways of living. As part of these efforts, the council is collaborating with Switch Together to:

  • boost solar energy adoption
  • reduce bills
  • save carbon emissions

We have partnered with iChoosr Ltd, independent experts in group-buying, to bring Switch Together to Birmingham’s homeowners.

Switch Together Birmingham is an innovative new scheme offering high-quality solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and battery storage. It is a group-buying scheme, which brings Birmingham households together to:

  • get high-quality solar panels at a competitive price
  • help you through the process
  • keep you informed at every stage

Planning permission

Solar PV installations are considered a 'permitted development' and will generally not need planning permission.

However, in some cases, such as in conservation areas and on listed buildings, you may need planning permission.

For planning advice, visit Conservation areas and Listed buildings.

If you already have solar panels installed

You can also register to have battery storage added to your existing solar panels to maximise the benefits of your system.

More about iChoosr

iChoosr was founded in 2008 and is privately owned by 2 co-founders.

Before it entered the UK energy market in 2012, it focused on group-buying schemes in the Netherlands and Belgium. It now works with community leaders helping households select energy and solar power suppliers.

As in the UK, its operations continue to grow across Europe, North America and Japan.
