Evidence of inequalities

There is a lack of routine data collection on veterans and very limited robust evidence on the health and wellbeing of this population.

Ministry of Defence reviews of veterans suggest personnel are likely to suffer the same range of health and welfare issues as the general population and most are generally robust people who do make a successful transition to civilian life, although a small percentage struggle. his minority experience complex mental and physical issues that are often compounded by wider determinants of health such as social isolation, crime, housing and income.

In 2019 to 2020 the council started a deep dive needs assessment into the health and wellbeing of veterans but this was paused due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we hope to publish this once the outbreak is over.
