Bringing art to centres

The engagement of artists and arts organisations can contribute to the vibrancy and positive change of an urban centre, and innovatively assist in redefining what a centre has to offer through:

  • wayfinding
  • improved identity
  • enhanced public spaces
  • improved visitor experience
  • celebrating heritage
  • engaging local communities

Opportunities could include developing arts trails to improve connectivity and wayfinding whilst celebrating local heritage, or developing specific artist commissions that could celebrate historical events, people, or significant themes relevant to the area.

Commissions could lead to a range of outcomes, such as permanent site-specific artwork, temporary artworks or a series of public activities across different art-forms.

Developing a locally-led arts and cultural plan for an urban centre, working with businesses, artists and communities, can generate valuable discussions about the shared creative vision of an area.
