Buildings of community value

Assets of community value are buildings or facilities that add to the wellbeing or interests (cultural, leisure or sporting) of the local community, and are likely to continue to do so in the future.

The Community Right to Bid scheme allows Parish councils, voluntary groups and community groups to suggest public or private assets that they feel are valuable to the community.  To nominate an asset of community value a Parish Council, community group or voluntary group will need to complete and return an Assets of Community Value Nomination Form.

Once the City Council has reviewed the application, if we agree, we’ll add the asset to a Community Right to Bid list.

If any asset on the list comes up for sale, the community group that nominated it is given a fair opportunity to place a bid to buy it. This helps them to keep the assets in public use.
