Change the address on your Council Tax bill
You should let us know if you change your address, so we can calculate your Council Tax bill.
Do not update your address earlier than 14 days before your moving date, because sometimes your moving date can change.
Before you start
You will need your 10-digit Council Tax billing reference number to change your address online. You can find your reference number in the top right of your bill.
If you are changing your address because you have bought or sold a property, you will need to know the completion date of any property bought or sold.
You will also need to provide either:
- the name of the person or organisation who has bought your previous property, if relevant
or
- your solicitor’s details
If you are changing your address because you are beginning or ending a rental tenancy, you will need your:
- tenancy start and end dates
- landlord’s or managing agent’s details
Moving within Birmingham
You must tell us if you're moving within Birmingham.
After you've told us, we will:
- close your old account
- send you a bill if you still owe us any money
- refund or transfer the credit if you have overpaid
If you have not received a refund or credit within 28 working days, you can request a Council Tax refund online.
If you currently pay by Direct Debit
If you pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit, these details may be transferred to the account for your new address. Your new bill will confirm the payment details.
If you do not pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit you must make any payments using your new address and new Council Tax reference number.
Moving into Birmingham
