Part-time or reduced timetables
In exceptional circumstances, a student may need a temporary part-time or reduced timetable to meet their individual needs. For example, when a medical condition prevents a student from attending full-time education, or when a reduced timetable is part of a reintegration package.
Ofsted states that information about children missing from education is essential. You must notify us of any part-time education arrangements. This includes:
- schools we maintain
- academies
- free schools
- independent schools
We have published updated guidance outlining the process for notifying us when a child is placed on a part-time or reduced school timetable.

You must notify us if:
- a child in Reception to the end of year 11 is placed on a part-time or reduced timetable and is therefore not currently receiving full-time educational provision
- you are updating or extending a notification you have already submitted
- you are closing the notification
Completing this form is considered a notification, not a referral.
After completing this form, we will contact you only if we need more details or to offer advice where there are concerns about the length of the arrangement.
