Closing the road for an event

A street party or a public event

The main differences between a small street party and larger public event are:

  • street parties are:
    • for residents/neighbours only
    • only publicised to local residents
  • larger public events can be:
    • attended by anyone
    • promoted to the wider public, such as in newspapers or social media

Holding a public event

If you wish to hold a public event, you will need to complete the public event enquiry form.

Managing road closures

If roads need to be closed for your event, you must:

  • provide a method statement which explains how you will implement and manage the road closure
  • engage with a Traffic Management Company if you need help to manage the road closure, diversions, and signage
  • make sure road closures are always manned - someone must be available at all times during the closure
  • plan for emergency services access during the closure
  • signpost clear diversion routes to guide traffic
  • notify National Express if public transport is affected by emailing highways@nationalexpress.com
