Parent governor – 2 positions

All parent governors of Birmingham Local Authority maintained schools will receive an email inviting nominations to fill 2 parent governor representative (PGR) positions on the council’s Education, Children and Young People Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

Under the Parent Governor Representatives (England) Regulations 2001, local authorities must appoint at least 2 parent governor representatives to overview and scrutiny committees that consider education matters.

About the role

Parent governor representatives participate fully in scrutiny committee meetings and bring a non-political, parental perspective to help scrutinise the council’s education functions and decision making.

This role is ideal if you are someone who is passionate about:

  • accountability
  • transparency
  • improving public services

You will gain valuable experience in:

  • public scrutiny
  • decision-making
  • governance.

Appointments will be for a 4-year term of office starting in May 2026.

Successful candidates will be expected to attend approximately 9 in-person meetings a year, with flexibility to attend additional meetings.

Training

Induction training will be provided.

Annual allowance

You will be paid an annual allowance of £909 to cover travel and other expenses.
