Library closures

Changes to community libraries

From 1 September 2025, Glebe Farm Library and Bartley Green Library will be run by community partners.

You will still be able to:

  • reserve, borrow and return books
  • use self-service kiosks
  • access public PCs and Wi-Fi
  • take part in community activities

Some services will only be available at council-run libraries. These include account PIN recovery and payment processing.

We have different opening hours at each library. You can check the opening hours on each library page.

Find your local library.

Spring Hill library

Spring Hill library was temporarily closed from December 2022 due to health and safety issues. In February 2025 Cabinet agreed to a new model for the delivery of community libraries which approved the permanent closure of the library.

The building was subsequently declared surplus to the requirements of the council by Cabinet Committee Property and approved for disposal.

The property is currently being marketed on behalf of the council by Lambert Smith Hampton for disposal as a long lease. Proposals for ongoing community use are welcome.

We are aware the property has a Grade II* listing status, and so further enquiries would need to be directed to the Planning Department.
