Library closures
Changes to community libraries
From 1 September 2025, Glebe Farm Library and Bartley Green Library will be run by community partners.
You will still be able to:
- reserve, borrow and return books
- use self-service kiosks
- access public PCs and Wi-Fi
- take part in community activities
Some services will only be available at council-run libraries. These include account PIN recovery and payment processing.

Temporary library closures
Aston library
Aston library will be open on Mondays only from 9:00am to 1:00pm and 2:00pm to 5:00pm, until further notice.
Balsall Heath library
Balsall Heath library is closed for major building and remodelling works, including adding a mezzanine floor.
Progress on opening the library will be published here as soon as possible.
We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.
The nearest libraries to Balsall Heath library are Kings Heath library and Sparkhill library.
Bloomsbury library
Bloomsbury library at The Pod will be closed on Wednesday 27 August 2025.
Glebe Farm library
The library will close on Friday 22 August 2025.
After a reorganisation of the space in the library, Welcome Change will reopen on Monday 1 September.
Selly Oak library
The library will be closed on Saturday 30 August 2025
Spring Hill library
The library is closed until further notice due to issues with the building. Due to the age and current state of the pipework in the building, a new heating solution is required. A feasibility study has been approved to obtain a quote for a new boiler.
The Library of Birmingham is less than a mile away from Spring Hill library, offering an alternative service for members of the public during the closure.
Progress on opening Spring Hill Library will be published here as soon as the necessary works have been scheduled.
All libraries are closed on bank holidays.
