About overview and scrutiny
Overview and scrutiny (O and S) committees make sure that council decision makers are held accountable.
The committees help with:
- developing strategic policy
- improving public services
- ensuring that the voice of the public is heard
There are 7 overview and scrutiny committees in Birmingham that cover every part of our work.
They make sure cabinet members are held responsible for the decisions they make and for the services we deliver.
The Health and Adult Social Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee also oversees health issues, and looks at the work of the NHS in Birmingham and the West Midlands.
