Overview

Excitement is already building for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games! Last weekend Birmingham officially became the host for the next Games with a spectacular celebration event. This Saturday the successes at Gold Coast 2018 will be celebrated with a Team England Homecoming Ceremony in Victoria Square and New Street (Saturday 21 April from midday to 5pm).

If you are planning on travelling into the city this Saturday (or at any other time) our advice is to use public transport, walk or cycle. These really are the best options; saving you money as well as helping keep congestion and pollution to a minimum. Birmingham, as the heart of the UK, has excellent public transport connections with three city centre rail stations and a wide range of bus and tram options. Road restrictions will be in place in the local area.

Plan ahead for travel by public transport in Birmingham

Birmingham City Council and its partners are committed to making 2022 Commonwealth Games both clean and green for travel. Major works are currently taking place to improve public transport, cycling and walking provision both in Birmingham and the wider region. Let’s start as we mean to go on - help reduce air pollution by leaving the car at home and choosing cleaner forms of transport.
