The Cottingley Fairies at Birmingham Hippodrome
A new musical from British Youth Music Theatre about the famous Cottingley fairy photographs.
This new musical tells the story of two girls who said they had taken pictures of real fairies. The photographs surprised many people and started a big debate.
The show explores:
- why the photographs caused such a reaction
- why some people believed the fairies were real
- why others did not
The music mixes folk sounds with the style of rock music from the 1970s.
The musical looks at why this story caught so much attention and why some people wanted to believe in something magical.
Written by Packham and Kealy, the 2025 Cameron Mackintosh Resident Writing Team at British Youth Music Theatre.
