Obesity and osteoarthritis: Can weight loss drugs help beyond the scales?

Discover how new weight loss drugs could change the way we think about osteoarthritis and its treatment.

Osteoarthritis is a common cause of joint pain. It is often described as wear and tear, but new research shows it is also linked to inflammation inside the joint.

This webinar explains how body weight, inflammation and joint pain are connected.

You will learn why obesity plays a bigger role than extra strain on the joints alone.

The session also looks at new weight loss drugs, such as Mounjaro. Research shows:

  • many people taking these drugs lose a significant amount of weight
  • some people with osteoarthritis report less joint pain while using them

Scientists are now studying whether these medicines might also calm inflammation inside the joint.

The webinar will be led by Simon Jones, Professor in Musculoskeletal Ageing at the University of Birmingham.
