Subjects covered
  • History of Handsworth Park, and its foundation between 1882 and 1898:

I have handouts including photos, maps, and texts relating to Handsworth Park and copies of my history of the founding of Handsworth Park.

Although my talk focuses on how Handsworth Park came to be created, I include short accounts of the life of the park up until now, including my involvement in the park’s restoration by Birmingham City Council after it won a millennium lottery grant with a bid to which I and other people in Handsworth contributed.

  • An adventure in dawn of our lives: sailing the Atlantic in a small boat:

I and a friend - Susanna Pulford - sailed a 22’ sailing boat called ‘Young Tiger’ across the Atlantic from England to America via the Caribbean.

I have pictures (powerpoint), maps and a printed account of our voyage to accompany my talk.

Additional information

I also lead history tours of Handsworth Park, duration agreed, but usually between one and two hours.
