About the park

Perry Park must be one of the city’s most contrasting open spaces. Not only is it the site of an internationally-renowned athletics stadium and popular BMX track but also boasts a wildlife-stocked reservoir and walking routes to suite everyone’s ability.

The world’s spotlight turned on the park in 2022 as it became a sporting epicentre for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. The Alexander Stadium, situated in the north of the park, was not only chosen to host the athletics and para-athletics programmes, but is also the stage for the Games’ Opening and Closing ceremonies.

As well as the vibrancy and excitement of the sporting venues, the park is also versatile enough to provide visitors with a pleasant place to enjoy a relaxing stroll, with five and two-kilometre routes along easily-accessible pathways. It is also the site of Perry Reservoir, which has become a haven for waterfowl. Bats are active at night and many birds nest in the trees planted around the park.

In recent years it has become the venue for the final stages of the Birmingham International Carnival and is used for a wide range of external events.
