About the park

This 42-acre public park offers visitors modern-day facilities and attractions blended with a journey through history. The north-western section of land once formed the estate of Highbury Hall, which is located on the northern fringes of the park and was owned by prominent politician Joseph Chamberlain. Before his death, he bequeathed it to the people of Birmingham. When the Chamberlin family left the house it became an auxiliary military hospital. Most of the grounds became a public park in 1930.

The north-eastern and southern part of the park was once owned by the Cadbury Family and was, similarly, bequeathed to the city in the early 20th century. Nowadays, people can walk around the park taking in many of the older features of the 19th century estates, including the Highbury Orchard and fishpond.

There are also plenty of woodland walks and accessible paths around the site and picnic tables for visitors who want to enjoy food and drink in fine surroundings.
