- About the park
-
This area of open green space, nestled in the heart of Saltley in east Birmingham, has played an important community role for more than 150 years.
It is named after Charles Adderley MP who donated the eight-acre site to create a park open to the public, which he privately managed from 1855 to 1864.
In 1865, the council accepted the land on a 999-year lease and has run it ever since. For many years a public library, reading room and museum, also provided by Mr Adderley, stood at the park entrance.
Nowadays, the park is an essential space for leisure and recreation. From dog walking to walking and jogging to sports and children’s play, it provides pleasure and entertainment for all generations.
It is also well utilised by nearby Adderley Primary School as an educational resource for pupils. Teachers and staff at the school also run regular wellbeing walks – taking advantage of the network of paths around the park.
