Cog railway mount washington new hampshire postcard

Mount Washington, New Hampshire.

This was the world's first mountain climbing Cog Railway. It began in 1868 and is still in operation.

The cog wheel engine pushed the passenger coach for 3 miles up the side of the White Mountains over an average grade of 1,300 feet.

The postcard itself was addressed from an Ellie Chase of Derry, New Hampshire to Edwin Bunton of Cortland, New York state and stamped 20 January 1939.
