Adams and Beresford

Adams beresford trade card

This trade card locates the business in Ann Street, which no longer exists. Originally joining Newhall Street to the top of New Street, Ann Street disappeared when it was divided between Victoria Square and Colmore Row in 1879. This means that Adams and Beresford must have been trading prior to 1879.

Ann Street was named after Ann Colmore, the head of the Colmore family and owners of the Newhall Estate.

The trade card notes the architect of Adams and Beresford's warehouse as J G Bland. Although Adams and Beresford no longer exists, examples of J G Bland's work that can still be seen are the School of Jewellery (1865) in Vittoria Street and The Argent Centre on the corner of Frederick Street and Legge Lane.
