Photographed in July 1909. A note on the back of the photograph states that the figure running was the last Senior Wrangler competing in the 'Old Boys' mile race at the King Edward VI High School Sports Competition.
The term 'Wrangler' may have denoted their higher education achievements particularly as it is recorded as an 'Old Boys' event indicating ex-pupils of the school. Other terms may have included Senior Optimes and Junior Optimes as second and third class degrees respectively, with Wrangler referring to first class.
