When the fields are white with daisies (c1914 to 1918)
-
"I stood once in a harbour as a ship was going out
On a voyage to a port beyond the sea,
And I watch'd a gallant soldier as he said his last farewell
To the lassie who lov'd him most tenderly;
I saw the tear-drops falling as the last "good-bye" was said,
'Twas the sorrow of a parting all must learn;
And I heard the soldier promise to the lassie now in tears:
"When the fields are white with daisies I'll return."Bamforth song card published by Messrs Arthur & Co. London.
