Taken from the story of "The Travelling Companion", this haunting illustration is by Scottish-born artist and author, Eleanor Vere Boyle or E.V.B. (1825 to 1916). When the book was published is 1872, it was the first collection of Anderson's fairy tales to be illustrated by a female artist.
