The Birmingham Ballroom (formerly Birmingham Academy), Dale End, Birmingham.

This site started off as the Top Rank. This venue became known for hosting major names through the 1960s and 1970s. Local bands also use to play there.

In the 1980s it became The Hummingbird Club and then was closed for a while when it was brought by the Academy group of venues.

From 2000 to 2009 it was the Academy, Carling Academy and the O2 Academy as sponsors' names attached themselves to the venue.

It had two levels with no seating and mostly attracted acts that were national and international. Occasionally local bands would play. It also had a smaller roomed venue within for up and coming acts.

Proposed demolition work on the area meant that the Academy venue had to move and it found a new home in the old Dome nightclub. When the proposed demolition plans were shelved, the venue was re-opened as The Birmingham Ballroom catering to smaller acts. However, the venue ran for 18 months and then closed in January 2013.
