Birmingham Hippodrome

Birmingham hippodrome photograph

Hurst Street, Birmingham. B5 4TB.

This building opened in 1895 and was known by different names until it became the Hippodrome in 1903. It seats around 2,000 and has a neo-classical auditorium.

Primarily it is a theatre, but has seen some pop and rock stars over the years. It has been re-modelled over the years and now has a glass frontage.

Nowadays it does tend to concentrate on theatre and dance, but The Beatles played in the 1960s and Kate Bush played a date on her only concert tour there in 1979.
