Hurst Street, Birmingham. B5 4TB. This building opened in 1895 and was known by different names until it became the Hippodrome in 1903. It seats around 2,000 and has a neo-classical auditorium. Primarily it is a theatre, but has seen some pop and rock stars over the years. It has been re-modelled over the years and now has a glass frontage. Nowadays it does tend to concentrate on theatre and dance, but The Beatles played in the 1960s and Kate Bush played a date on her only concert tour there in 1979.
