Shawls were very fashionable at this time, with Queen Victoria favouring tartan designs. The finest examples of woollen and silk shawls and pashminas were sourced from Kashmir, India.

Great demand saw production spread across Europe, with businesses forming such as the Scottish manufacturer, Paisley.
