Dowells retreat photograph

A woman sits outside Dowell’s Retreat. There were reportedly 21 almshouses and a chapel built by James Dowell in Warner Street, Bordesley, for the use of poor, aged women, preferably from Bordesley and Deritend. This photograph was taken on 18 August 1932.
