In May 2016 Birmingham City Council announced its intention to move towards a Children’s Trust and at a later meeting secured council approval of Trust principles.
The first cabinet report, setting out the case for change, was approved by cabinet in July and another report in September proposed two options for further development. We are currently talking to staff, children and young people, families, and other organisations in the city to explore these options.
In January Cabinet formally approved the move to the Children’s Trust and recommended the model would be a Wholly Owned Company based on a Community Interest Company. You can download the cabinet report.
We will become a fully established Trust in April 2018, and prior to this is a shadow Trust period running from April 2017- April 2018. The Shadow Trust year is the next step towards becoming a Trust. It allows us to develop a structure for the Trust, and try out new ways of working to help us to produce better outcomes for children, young people and families.
