Perry Barr update, roadworks on Moor Street Queensway, bike and scooter hire, Brum Breathes update

Perry Barr regeneration updates

The next phase of the Perry Barr Highway Improvement Scheme will begin in January, with the permanent closure of the flyover and a new temporary traffic layout installed from the weekend of 8 to 11 January 2021.

Please check the latest travel advice before you set out, plan ahead and leave more time for your journey. Walking or cycling for shorter journeys will help to reduce congestion on the A34 and local roads. Public transport services will also be operating normal timetables.

Other projects in the regeneration programme are also progressing well, with the new Alexander Stadium taking shape, the naming of six streets in the residential area and publication of a new design for Perry Barr station.

To help us get you to where you need to go during the regeneration works, and for a chance to win £30 in Amazon vouchers, please complete our travel survey before 15 January 2021.

Temporary works on Moor Street Queensway

From Monday 4 to Friday 8 January 2021, a section of the carriageway on Moor Street Queensway will be closed for HS2 works. Vehicles will not be able to travel southbound (towards Bullring) or turn right into Carrs Lane during this work.

Some bus stops along Moor Street Queensway, Carrs Lane and Priory Queensway will be temporarily relocated.

The Moor Street Queensway bus gate will be temporarily suspended from 4 to 8 January 2021. At all other times, private vehicles are not permitted. To access Bullring/Selfridges car parks you must approach from Digbeth.

  • Perry Barr, Aston Park, Handsworth Park, Lozells high street, and Birmingham City Hospital to the north.

Brum Breathes

Meet Caz and Reg! These two very special clouds will be taking Birmingham on its journey to cleaner air as we begin the countdown to Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone, which launches on 1 June 2021. Watch their brand new video now.

We have a range of support and financial incentives for businesses working to clean up their fleet, including a Heavy Duty Vehicle Fund, available to Small and Medium Enterprises based in the West Midlands. This fund can contribute towards the lease or purchase of vehicles that meet the emission standard for the Clean Air Zone.

We’re also working with Sustrans to find out how we can support people travelling to faith, voluntary or community groups within Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone – complete the surveys to share your thoughts:
