Greenground Map

Birmingham is home to over 600 green spaces – ranging from small playing fields to expansive nature reserves, connected by our unique canal networks and greenways. The ‘Greenground Map’ showcases Birmingham’s green spaces in a creative schematic walking network, moving away from the traditional road-dominated maps we’re used to. The map includes an array of green spaces, connected by waterways, canals, and walking/cycling routes to promote the use of active travel.

The Great Birmingham Run

The Great Birmingham Run, taking place on Sunday 7 May, is open for entry, with a brand new route! Thousands of runners will pass popular landmarks and green spaces across the city centre and south of the city. Ten scenic spots have been picked, including St Paul’s Square, The Mailbox, and Cannon Hill Park on the 10k and half marathon route to enjoy as a spectator or runner.

Use the public transport options available on the day, plan your journey in advance, and leave plenty of time to get to the start line, as there will be a number of road closures in place for the weekend. Sign up to conquer the new route!

Don’t have a bike? Not to worry - you can hire a bike with West Midlands Cycle Hire. Their minute bundles are a great way to ride around the city, and save some money.

Public Transport made easier

You can now enjoy lower bus prices until June 2023, National Express West Midlands have extended the £2 single fare cap, and the £1 single tickets for children and young people aged 18 and under! Leave the car at home and travel by bus instead.

From Sunday 16 April, there will be changes to some bus timetables and routes in the West Midlands and Black Country to improve the reliability of services.

West Midlands Railway have also announced some timetable changes will take place for the Snow Hill lines from Sunday 21 May to help the network run more smoothly.
