Aims of the Community Covenant

  • To support the principles of the national Armed Forces Covenant, which details the Government, and the nation as a whole, should all interact with our Armed Forces
  • To encourage all of Birmingham’s communities to offer support to the Armed Forces Community
  • To Help Armed Forces personnel and their families to access the help and support available to them
  • To encourage the armed Forces community to support their local Community and promote activities which integrate them with civilian life                            

How we will achieve our aims

  • Provide additional points for council home application from ex-service personnel
  • Explore how the Armed Forces community can contribute to voluntary activities in Birmingham
  • Provide opportunities for ex-service personnel to access employment and training
  • Identify existing support services for the families and children of the Armed Forces community
  • Support the ongoing health and well-being of current and ex-service personnel

Armed Forces Ambassador

"In 2016 I was appointed as Birmingham City Councils Armed Forces Ambassador, as a former soldier myself I have an understanding of the issues faced by veterans and serving personnel. Birmingham City Council is committed to the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant and wherever possible we will assist those who serve or have served and their families to ensure that they are treated fairly". Councillor Mike Sharpe B.E.M, Birmingham City Council, Armed Forces Ambassador.

Armed Forces Day 2017 Highlights

The Royal Navy took the lead at this year's event. The event began with a Drumhead Service with regiments of the Armed Forces attending.Armed Forces Day 2017

There were a number of charity stalls from organisations such as War Widows, Help for Heroes, Royal British Legion and Fisher House. There were displays and activities provided by the three Armed Forces, stage programme, children’s entertainment and food and drink.
