The markets team oversees the running of the Retail and Wholesale
Markets situated in the City Centre, as well as a Sunday Car Boot Sale
and the famous Antiques Market. In addition it regulates over 130 street
trading locations, licenses all Subsidiary Markets and Car Boots under
the franchise rights of Birmingham City Council. A Markets Customer
Centre provides assistance to Retail Markets customers.
Bull Ring Indoor Market
The Bull Ring Indoor Market replaced the
Bull Ring Market Hall and opened in October 2000. It was operated by the
developer, Hammersons, and returned to the City Council on 1st September
2004. It sells a variety of produce and is famous for its Fish Section.
It has 140 stalls.
Bull Ring Rag Market
The Bull Ring Rag Market re-opened in
December 2000. It is renowned for the extensive range of materials it
has to offer, in addition to other merchandise. It has 350 stalls and 17
perimeter shops.
Bull Ring Open Market
The Open Market now provides 130 purposely
designed and manufactured stalls including stalls around the Bull Ring
Rag Market providing a lively and attractive market scene. The markets
offer excellent goods, quality service, bargains and much more.
Wholesale Markets
Situated on a 21 acre site, which includes
Horticultural, Fish and Poultry and Meat Markets,
as well as
warehousing and ancillary accommodation. There are 235 trading units
comprising
31,000 sq metres of trading space.
Sunday Car Boot Sale
Held every Sunday morning in the Wholesale
Markets Precinct, with over 300 hardstanding
pitches, for the sale of
second hand and new goods.
Car Boot Sales
Commercial Car Boot Sales are not permitted in
Birmingham and before holding a Car Boot Sale for charity, you must seek
permission from the City Council.
Antiques Market
This event is held in the heart of England’s
Antiques Trade and attracts traders and visitors from across the

Farmers Markets
This is held in the City Centre every first and
third Wednesday of each month.
Street Trading
All streets in Birmingham have been designated as
‘consent’ streets and are subject to
the granting of a
Street Trading Consent following consultation with other parties.
Subsidiary Markets
To comply with Birmingham City Council’s
statutory monopoly to hold Markets and Fairs,
permission is required
to hold a Market.
Markets Customer Centre
Located within the Bull Ring Rag Market,
the Markets Customer Centre is open between the
hours of 9.00 am and
5.00 pm Tuesday to Saturday. A Shopmobility service is available
from
this venue.
