Leader visits Perry Barr Residential Scheme for progress update

Published: Thursday, 20th August 2020

Cllr Ian Ward, Leader of Birmingham City Council, paid tribute to the efforts of everyone involved in the delivery of the Perry Barr Residential Scheme during a site visit on Tuesday (August 18).

Following last week’s news that all previous funding pledges were re-confirmed after a review of the impact of COVID-19 on the scheme, Cllr Ward met some of the 400 workers on site and was briefed by principal contractor Lendlease on progress made since ground was broken on the project last year.

When complete, the scheme will provide 2,000 much-needed homes for Birmingham, acting as a catalyst for a further 3,000 homes and wider regeneration in the north west of the city – including improved leisure and community facilities along with upgraded transport infrastructure.

Cllr Ward said: “With all of the issues and challenges we have faced as a city during the COVID-19 pandemic in recent times, it was hugely encouraging to visit the Perry Barr Residential Scheme construction site and see the progress being made.

“Work has carried on despite the pandemic and will continue in the months and years to come. The passion and dedication of everyone involved with this project is obvious and we are grateful for the effort that is being put in.

“The delivery of this housing is the first part of an unprecedented package of investment into Birmingham and will make north west Birmingham a great place to live in, work in and visit.”

Cllr Ward was joined on the tour by the Lendlease Project Director at Perry Barr, Anna Evans, and David Cadiot, Lendlease’s Executive General Manager for Construction in the UK’s regions.

Lendlease’s Project Director for the Perry Barr Residential Scheme, Anna Evans, said: “Every member of our team is hugely passionate about the contribution the new homes now emerging from the ground here will make to the regeneration of Perry Barr. This project is helping create new jobs and homes that will be of great benefit to this fantastic city.”
